Dimensions of the playing court:
The soccer-tennis trainer™ is 8 feet wide. We recommend a court size of 8 feet wide by 8 - 10 feet deep for each side (total court size of 8 feet by 16 - 20 feet). If you are attaching several games together, we recommend a court depth for each side that is about equal to the court width (for example, a court width of 16 feet should have a court depth of 16 feet for each side).

Court size may vary according to the space available and skill level of players. Remember, the smaller the court, the more difficult the game.

Service:
A service is executed by kicking the ball from behind the base line. Players can serve by picking the ball up with their hands and then kicking the ball off the volley or off the bounce. For an extra challenge, players can leave the ball on the ground and “chip” the ball over the bar for the service.

The ball shall cross the bar and land on the opponent’s zone. The opposing players shall not touch the ball until it has touched their own half of the playing court.

Touches:
1 vs. 1 – Each player is allowed 2 touches and 1 bounce per return.

2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3… – Each team is allowed 3 touches and 1 bounce per return.

Once a player touches the ball, the ball may not bounce again on his/her zone. The player does not have to let the ball touch the ground (except for the opponent’s service).

With the exception of singles play, the player is not allowed to touch the ball twice in succession.

Depending on the skills of the players, the number of touches and bounces can be modified (i.e. beginners can have more touches and bounces in any combination while advanced players can try fewer touches).

Scoring:
We use the "rally scoring" system. This means that a point is awarded on every service to the player/team that wins the rally.

A team wins a point if the opponent commits a fault. Examples of faults include:

  • The player (team) has too many touches and/or bounces before getting the ball over the bar.
  • A player touches the ball with hand or arm.
  • The ball lands outside the opponent’s playing court (lines are in).

THE OBJECTIVE OF SOCCER-TENNIS IS TO HAVE FUN WHILE IMPROVING SKILLS. THE RULES SHOULD BE MODIFIED SO THAT ALL PLAYERS ARE CHALLENGED WHILE STILL EXPERIENCING ENOUGH SUCCESS SO THAT THEY WANT TO CONTINUE PLAYING.
